About Me...

I am originally from Foley, Alabama where I was born and still live today. I am a full time student at the University of South Alabama where I am a double major in Secondary Education and Language Arts. As of right now I commute five days a week between Foley and Mobile and I also work full time at Outback Steakhouse. My plan is to not be a waitress for the rest of my life and to hopefully start a career as an English teacher at the High School level; preferably in Baldwin County, Alabama. If I can not find a job as a teacher soon after graduation I plan on attending South Alabama's Educational graduate program. By doing this I will be able to continue my education and be a better teacher when I am able to enter the classroom.

Why I Think Teaching Is The Life For Me...

It truly takes a very special person to make a good teacher. Teaching is not a career that anyone can simply learn how to do. It is a skill and it is a gift. Someone with the title of teacher has to be a compassionate, caring person. No one that is self-centered would ever be able to make it in the teaching profession. That being said, I do believe that I have what it takes to become a great teacher. Teachers affect so many different student's lives in such positive ways. I want to be able to do that very same thing every time I go to work.

Believing In My Students...

When I become a teacher I want my students to know that I am there for them. After-all, if it were not for the students there would be no teachers. I think from time-to-time many teachers forget the reason they are getting paid and center their attention solely on their paychecks. I want my future students to know that I am there for them and that I will be fighting right beside them the entire way. I will make sure that my students receive the best education that they possibly can. It happens all too often that students get lost in the system; I will try my hardest to not let that be the case for any of the students in my classes. Students need support and I am ready and willing to be their backbone.

Teacher As Well As A Student...

Once I become a teacher I will still consider myself as a student. I hope that I will always see myself this way. I want to teach my students as much as I possibly can, but at the same time I hope to learn as much as I possibly can from them. I think it is extremely important to steadily further one's own knowledge. As an educator one must always be willing to learn. How can you encourage your students to gain as much knowledge as they can when you have closed the door on yourself? I will always encourage my students to keep their brain on and their mind open; because that is the way I will live my life.

Parents In The Classroom...

Once I become a teacher and I am assigned to my own classroom, I will always keep an open door policy. I think it is vital for a child's educational experience for their parents to be a part of it. One of the first things I will do at the start of each new school year is to let the parents know how to contact me. This way there are never any communication barriers between parents, teachers and students. The easier it is to communicate with each other, the smoother classroom procedures will run. I hope that I am lucky enough to get parents who are interested in their child's education, but if not I will do my best to change their minds.

Going Above And Beyond...

As a new teacher I bring with me to the classroom fresh ideas that differ from what was once considered the norm. From taking EDM310 I have learned that classes can not only continue outside the classroom, but they can continue outside the country. I plan to adjust the assigned curriculum to fit my students. I think that in this century the use of technology plays a major role in the majority of school aged children's lives. I plan on using blogging and live video chats in my classroom so that my students can better understand the world around them. There are so many new, intriguing ideas floating around on the world wide web to help students better understand the knowledge they are gaining. I have every intention of going above and beyond the standard curriculum and normal classroom procedures so that my students get the best education available.

Technology In The Classroom...

I hope that when I become a teacher I am lucky enough to be placed in a school that has the financing available to keep up with the fast paced technological world. After taking EDM310 I have been exposed to numerous technological tools that advance the classroom in ways almost unimaginable. Using technological tools such as Smartboards are a sure way to keep the kids more intrigued and more focused on the subject matter at hand. I can not wait to explore the assigned curriculum and find new ways to adjust it so that it becomes more technologically advanced. With the technology that is now available to both students and teachers there is no reason why any student should not succeed. With the resources available online every teacher should be able to find a way to transform the curriculum to match student's needs. I know that when I become a teacher I will use every technological tool available to help my students achieve their goals.
